St. Louis
Grand Prix Powerboat Races are getting some
“Emergency Support”
For the 36th Annual
Event
St. Louis, MO April 24, 2007
The St. Louis
Grand Prix Powerboat Races, sponsored by Bud Light has finalized
the date for 2007. The races will be held on August 4th
and 5th, 2007, at Creve Coeur Lake.
The event has
been organized by the Concord Village Lions Club for 35 years. This
year, the event will get some much needed additional support.
“The Concord
Village Lions Club has worked tirelessly to maintain a first class
racing event for St. Louis. It is often called the ‘INDY 500’ of
boat racing, and is known worldwide. We have been looking for some
local partners to assist the Lions Club with this event, and after
some discussions, I am proud to announce that the Professional Fire
Fighters of Eastern Missouri, IAFF Local 2665, will be joining the
Concord Village Lions Club to present the 36th annual BUD
LIGHT Champ Boat Races”, said Race Chairman and Concord Village
Lions Club member Bill Seebold.
Race Director
Paul Zagarri added, “With the help of Local 2665, we will be able to
get a lot more people out in the public talking about the races,
selling tickets and sponsorships, as well as their support with
concessions, and displaying all sorts of Fire and Rescue Equipment
at Creve Coeur Lake during the race weekend. I am really looking
forward to the members of Local 2665 helping us to make this the
best race of the Champ Boat series”.
Ken Meadows,
Business Manager for the IAFF Local 2665 had this to say, “As we
learned more about the history of this event, and the fact that all
of the money raised from the races is given back to the community
for charitable endeavors, it made sense for us to join forces with
them, and share some revenue for our causes, MDA and Backstoppers.”
Champboat Series
President, Mike Schriefer, added, “I can not think of a better
partner than the Professional Fire Fighters of Eastern Missouri for
the Lions Club to work with. The fact that they have close to 1800
members in the Local 2665, and that our race site falls under their
area of responsibility, makes for a logical fit. I can’t wait for
the equipment displays along the beach front, and the opening
ceremonies with the Local 2665 Honor Guard will be spectacular.”
The 36th
annual St. Louis Grand Prix Powerboat Races will feature
drivers from all over the USA, and internationally. Classes
participating will be the CHAMP Boats, also know as CHAMP1, the
CHAMP2 or SST 120’s, and the CHAMP3 or SST 45’s. For more
